- Abstract (Swedish)
- Earlier studies have shown that Western classical music after 1945 is characterised by a pluralistic style which offers a range of tools for nurturing pupil's musical abilities. The purpose of this study is to examine German and Swedish music teacher's ideas about Western classical music after 1945 in relation to their own music classes. Three German music teachers and three Swedish music teachers have been interviewed in connection with this research.
This study shows that Western classical music plays a certain roll for all participating music teachers but that the degree of use of such music differs significantly. The music teachers that have been interviewed describe especially theoretical modes of activity in connection with Western... This study shows that Western classical music plays a certain roll for all participating music teachers but that the degree of use of such music differs significantly. The music teachers that have been interviewed describe especially theoretical modes of activity in connection with Western classical music after 1945 and their own lessons. This is inconsistent with findings in literature about music teaching which suggests that active music-making, improvisation and experimentation with sounds of the voice and every- day objects is a prior condition for musical learning.
