- The aim of this essay was to study how Swedish women magazines write about stress and which advice is given to the readers from a social constructivist perspective. The selection of magazines used in this study was chosen based on four different criterions. The first criteria were that the magazines should be intended for women and the second criteria were that it should be intended for women between the ages 25-50 years old. The third and fourth criteria was that the magazines had to contain articles concerning the subject stress and been published during the 21st century. - The aim of this essay was to study how Swedish women magazines write about stress and which advice is given to the readers from a social constructivist perspective. The selection of magazines used in this study was chosen based on four different criterions. The first criteria were that the magazines should be intended for women and the second criteria were that it should be intended for women between the ages 25-50 years old. The third and fourth criteria was that the magazines had to contain articles concerning the subject stress and been published during the 21st century. Five magazines that measured up to the requirements were the following: Amelia, Damernas värld, ELLE, Femina and Tara. A qualitative method has been chosen along with an inductive approach. This essay is written as a content analysis with three different themes, which are: Solutions for stress, the expert presented in the magazines and expectations on the female role. In our study we found that the magazines presents the women as the sex that has the biggest responsibility over the family and the children. The magazines show a focus on women’s appearance and how to improve their looks by different beauty tips and priority lists. We also discovered that women’s magazines often refer their information to what they call experts. (Less)
