- Abstract
- The aim with this study is to analyse how social workers reason and understand that some youth who grew up in households living on social assistance is also in need of assistance as a young adult. This study contains qualitative interviews with seven social workers in Malmö. All respondents work in the field of social assistance. This study also investigates how social workers understand and perceive reasons, character, solution, responsibility and social workers´ own role. A problem analysis has been done and the answers has been coded in either voluntarism or determinism. - The aim with this study is to analyse how social workers reason and understand that some youth who grew up in households living on social assistance is also in need of assistance as a young adult. This study contains qualitative interviews with seven social workers in Malmö. All respondents work in the field of social assistance. This study also investigates how social workers understand and perceive reasons, character, solution, responsibility and social workers´ own role. The results in this study shows that it was an ambivalence between determinism and voluntarism. Structural factors is interpreted and understood by the social workers in the form of position in society and social workers' working methods. Another reason is the youth's own motivation and the risk of a normalization of social aid and also that the youth lacks adult role models who are working and have their own incomes. The majority of the respondents advocated early efforts and meetings with the youth while they still are in their parents household. In order to inform and guide youth and compensate the living condition. (Less)
