“I have no respect for women like that!” - a qualitative content analysis on how women who have children with multiple partners are discussed on internet forums.

This essay aims to identify and analyze the view of these women. Discussion threads on Flashback Forum and on the parental community Familjeliv about women who have children with multiple partners have been examined. This essay uses gender theory from a social constructivist basis and focuses on the social norms that are displayed, unspoken and pronounced. The essay aims to analyze the stereotype descriptions of gender that appears in the posts. As our method we have chosen to do a qualitative text analysis of threads that we saw as being compatible to our purpose. This gave us 606 posts as our material. Based on our themes, we chose to use 150 posts that we found interesting. We have gradually reduced these. To the final analysis, we kept 43 posts.

Our questions are as follows:
• What terms are used for women who have children with several partners?
• What pronounced and unprecedented norms appear about women and family formation?
• How do stereotype depictions of gender appear in the posts?

The results of the essay have shown prominent norms about motherhood. It shows that women who have children with two different partners are socially accepted but there are clear negative beliefs about women who have children with three or more different partners. During the course of the work we have seen clear expressions of misogyny in several posts and therefore we highlight this in our essay. (Less)
