Abstract
The lack of labour is today an extensive problem in Sweden’s construction industry. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine how employer attractiveness is valued and how the experience of work engagement and job satisfaction appears in the Swedish construction industry. The study also aimed to identify to which extent potential correlations differed among white- and blue collar workers. The aforementioned constructs were analyzed through social exchange theory as well as organizational identification. The study adopted a survey design and altogether 72 respondents in a Case company participated. The data was collected through Employer Attractiveness Scale (EmpAt), Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) and Minnesota... (More)

The study’s results indicated that employer attractiveness was highly valued among the Case company’s employees, who also experienced a high level of work engagement and job satisfaction. Furthermore, there was a weak positive correlation between work engagement and job satisfaction and the correlation between work engagement and job satisfaction turned out to be strong. It was found that the two occupational groups only affected the construct’s correlations to a limited extent. Since employer attractiveness was highly valued, it was concluded that construction companies should have a long-term focus in their strategic work with employer attractiveness to have the ability to compete on a market where labour is scarce. Previous research has found that engaged and satisfied employees have an impact on profitability. Thus, it is of importance for construction companies to be able to engage and satisfy their employees since it was concluded that there is a correlation between these two constructs. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)
