Abstract
Society and technology is constantly developing at an accelerating speed and today's health care is getting more advanced than ever. Advanced health care requires increasingly high levels of competence. In order to comply with the demands, organizations need to be flexible and encourage a learning environment in the workplace. One of the main issues in meeting the requirements is that there is a lack of competence available on the market, and the newly graduated nurses often have an excellent theoretical background, but sometimes lack enough practical experience. However, an effective introduction and support can help ease the transition to the nursing profession and help the organization obtain the necessary competence. Mentoring is... (More)
Society and technology is constantly developing at an accelerating speed and today's health care is getting more advanced than ever. Mentoring is suggested to create possibilities for easier transition into a new work role, and Region Skåne is offering a mentoring program as part of their introduction for newly graduated nurses. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze how newly graduated nurses experience the mentoring program as a part of their introduction at Region Skåne, with a focus on their learning experience. We also aim to analyze whether the mentoring programme is adapted to suit the needs of the individuals or the needs of the organization. This study was conducted with qualitative research and a hermeneutic methodology. The material consisted of semi-structured interviews. The result show that most of the interviewed nurses value the mentoring program and confirm it has helped them develop both personally and professionally. (Less)
