Officersförsörjningen av det svenska försvaret: En fallstudie om den förväntade officersbristen

Abstract
By understanding politics as something that public institutions do one can find a political problem in the public sectors inability to staff positions vital to the function of these institutions. The case that was studied revolves around the expected lack of officers in the Swedish defense. Earlier research regarding the staffing of occupations within the public sector points to a professions attractiveness as meaningful to the individual's choice of profession. Therefore a theory about the status of professions is used throughout the thesis in order to help the understanding of why there is an expected shortage of officers. By understanding politics as something that public institutions do one can find a political problem in the public sectors inability to staff positions vital to the function of these institutions. The case that was studied revolves around the expected lack of officers in the Swedish defense. Earlier research regarding the staffing of occupations within the public sector points to a professions attractiveness as meaningful to the individual's choice of profession. With this in mind I conducted a small case study where individuals with ties to the defense were interviewed about their impressions of the defense as a work place, and the occupation of officers. The study consisting of interviews and a description of the context as to where officers are active, resulted in the understanding that the lack of officers can be derived from the weak attraction of the profession mostly due to a bad salary.
