- Abstract
- During the last decade Sweden has seen rising immigration of vulnerable EEA/EU citizens. In many cases these individuals live in homelessness and difficult social conditions. In desperate situations municipalities can provide support. However, the level of support that is provided for EEA/EU citizens varies greatly between municipalities. This study examines if there’s a positive correlation between municipalities where the Green Party is included in the governing coalition and increased support to EEA/EU citizens. Further, it is examined if the effect of including the Green Party is different in left-wing-coalitions, right-wing-coalitions, and mixed-ideology-coalitions. Finally, it is examined whether the method of providing support is... (More)

Further, it is examined if the effect of including the Green Party is different in left-wing-coalitions, right-wing-coalitions, and mixed-ideology-coalitions. Finally, it is examined whether the method of providing support is affected by the participation of the Green party in the various governing coalitions. The study finds that when the Green party is a member of a right-wing coalition there’s a statistically significant positive effect on the support to EEA/EU citizens. There are further some tendencies for increased support, provided through NGOs supported by the municipality, when the Green Party is a part of a governing left-wing coalition, but this can not be ascertained with certainty. The Green Party doesn’t influence the support to EEA/EU citizens when part of a governing mixed-ideology coalition. (Less)
