- Abstract
- During the past years a number of obstetric wards have been shut down in Sweden. The shutdowns have resulted in a debate about the standard of the obstetric care. The topic has engaged multiple parts of society such as, politicians, citizens, care professionals and grassroots organizations. From the debate between 2016-2018, this essay drives the thesis that the concept women’s rights to healthcare legitimizes insufficient obstetric-care, which has identified the need to develop the concept women’s rights to healthcare in order to get better obstetric care. - During the past years a number of obstetric wards have been shut down in Sweden. The shutdowns have resulted in a debate about the standard of the obstetric care. The topic has engaged multiple parts of society such as, politicians, citizens, care professionals and grassroots organizations. From the debate between 2016-2018, this essay drives the thesis that the concept women’s rights to healthcare legitimizes insufficient obstetric-care, which has identified the need to develop the concept women’s rights to healthcare in order to get better obstetric care. The purpose of this essay is therefore, with an argumentative analysis and Catharine MacKinnon’s radical feminist perspective, to investigate attitudes towards the Swedish obstetric care. The result confirms the thesis and will together with previous research be the starting point for the concept development. The concept development is inspired by Sally Haslanger’s analytical approach. Finally, the essay is aiming to open up a discussion about women’s situation in healthcare and is aiming to work for a better obstetric care. The questions that have guided the essay are the following: How do the arguments look in the Swedish obstetric care debate from 2016-2018? In what way do the debate relate to women’s rights to healthcare? How can the concept women’s rights to healthcare be developed from a radical feminist point of view? (Less)

Debatten har berört vilket skick den svenska förlossningsvården egentligen befinner sig. Resultatet av analysen och undersökningen visar på hur det finns problematiska attityder gentemot förlossningsvården och att det saknas ett rättighetsperspektiv i debatten. Det bekräftar således tesen och föranleder därmed begreppsutvecklingen av kvinnors rätt till vård, som ämnar att öppna upp för diskussion gällande kvinnors vårdsituation med förhoppningen att verka för en bättre förlossningsvård. De frågeställningar som väglett uppsatsen är: Hur ser argumentationen ut i debatten gällande den svenska förlossningsvården mellan 2016-2018? Hur förhåller sig debatten till kvinnors rätt till vård? Hur kan kvinnors rätt till vård begreppsutvecklas utifrån ett radikalfeministiskt perspektiv? (Less)
