The aim of this study was to examine the exposure to work-related threats and violence among social workers exercising public authority. More specifically, its purpose was to identify differences between various areas such as welfare service or elderly care, and also explore whether personal and organizational aspects matter in this context. The study was conducted through a survey methodology, using a cross-sectional analysis based on questionnaires. Exercise of public authority within the fields of addiction and child welfare, extensive and in-depth contact with clients, home visits, lower age, less experience, lack of knowledge and education, and unsatisfactory preventive work (as well as guidelines) are factors that were shown to increase the risk of exposure to threats and violence. Further studies are needed to provide for a more holistic knowledge frame concerning exposure to threats and violence among social workers exercising public authority. (Less)
