Abstract
Service user involvement has become an important part of social work in Sweden. Social services in Helsingborg has taken a step further in involving service users by including them in the recruitment process of some of their own staff members. Few studies regarding this particular phenomenon has been found thus the need of exploring it further. The aim of this thesis is to explore social workers opinion on the matter in hope to broaden knowledge regarding the phenomena. A qualitative analysis has been deducted through semi-structured interviews aiming to gather the needed empiricism. The aim of this thesis is to explore social workers opinion on the matter in hope to broaden knowledge regarding the phenomena. A qualitative analysis has been deducted through semi-structured interviews aiming to gather the needed empiricism. Results shows that though the common opinion on the involvement is that it empowers and serve as recognition for the individual, social workers attitudes were divided concerning such involvement. Those in favour argued that such involvement contributes both to the individual and to the organisation allowing better relationships between them in the future. Those against, argued that resources should be distributed on involving service users to form policies within the organisation to help other users instead. However, a common hope among social workers is for the involvement not to be symbolic or for it to co-optate users leading them to distrust the organisation. To forward the involvement further social workers advice organisations to be more informative about the aim of involving service users in order to have all parties concerned on board, and further to create a sustainable routine for the occurrence of such involvement.
