Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
Electronic devices have made it possible for working individuals to be constantly available for work-related communication at any time and place. The boundaries between time on and of work therefore have changed, with new and different working conditions as an effect. This quantitative study aimed to examine people working full time with access to a smartphone in their work, with the purpose of exploring if different types of work-related smartphone use during off-work time correlate with a specific type of work-to-nonwork effect and with work-related stress. 116 full time workers answered the Internet survey that was produced for the study. Gender and the individual's preference of either having work and nonwork separated or integrated... (More)

Gender and the individual's preference of either having work and nonwork separated or integrated were two other aspects that were taken into account in the study. The results showed that work-related smartphone use driven by demands is positively correlated with work-to-nonwork interference and work-related stress. It was also shown in the study that smartphone use during off-work time which is within the individual's control, correlates positively with perceived work-to-nonwork enhancement. The conclusion drawn from the analysis was that the conditions surrounding work-related communication during off-work time should be taken into account when striving for an improvement of the individual's experience of the relationship between work and personal life.
