- Urban development projects of a complex nature with many involved project participants are becoming increasingly common in the construction sector. The projects are often part of cities' investments in urban growth. The aim is often to create added value for large areas in the cities. Tight schedule allowance minimum mistakes. - Urban development projects of a complex nature with many involved project participants are becoming increasingly common in the construction sector. The projects are often part of cities' investments in urban growth. The aim is often to create added value for large areas in the cities. Tight schedule allowance minimum mistakes. High project cost and usually many involving project participants do not create the optimal conditons for a project. This situation puts high demand on coordination and a need for a construction logistics coordinator may be preferred. The purpose of the study was to investigate the interaction between building logistics and communication as well as it should favor the future development of building logistics. The current logistics solutions used were mapped and how communication occur concerning building logistics were investigated. Challenges for continued development of building logistics in today's situation were also investigated. In order to create a theoretical foundation, a literature study in the fields of communication and logistics was performed, both generally and how these areas are implemented in the construction industry. As building logistics companies are relatively few, qualitative methods for the interviews were used and the respondents chosen came from one company. Partly because a quantitative study had not provided reliable data and partly because the interview questions aimed for a deeper level. A case study was conducted to analyse and compare two complex projects where building logistics solutions were necessary. In one of the projects, an observation was also conducted to provide an understanding of how these solutions are functionated. The conclusion of the study is that successful logistics in complex construction projects requires a positive management that engages the employees. A third party should affiliate early on for the initial logistic planning and subsequently they have the main logistic responsibility during the production. Effective communication is crucial for a successful project and achieved through transparency in the project organization. In a initial phase, contractors are required to convey information to the logistic coordinator and in the production phase it is necessary that all project participants are kept informed. (Less)
