Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to create an understanding of the prerequisites for a sub region, like the MalmöLund region, producing a traffic strategy. The study is divided into a literature study and an empirical study. The empirical study examines the MalmöLund region, strategical documents, and a reference object taken place in the Luleå region. The research questions for this thesis are the following: How does the existing collaboration within the MalmöLund region affect the possibilities to produce a traffic strategy? How should the work process be defined and who should take the lead? What could be considered important focus areas for a traffic strategy? What can a regional traffic strategy provide as additional value?

What can a regional traffic strategy provide as additional value?

The cooperation within the MalmöLund region defines an existing arena for
collaboration amongst the municipalities on strategic development issues and practical collaboration issues, that can be categorized as soft space planning, that makes the sub region suitable to produce a traffic plan. Soft space planning approaches have proven to create a better dialog between actors from different sectors but on the other hand they have a week effect on practical results. Therefore, the work process will be crucial. To produce a successful result, it has proven to be crucial to facilitate an including work process and to clearly anchor the project. To collect inspiration from the Poly-SUMP methodology to ensure a proven process and at the same time proceed from the Metropolitan Strategy for the MalmöLund region should be a good place to start.
