- Abstract
- This thesis aims to answer if Dieselgate had effects on how three actors, the Swedish government, Volvo cars and medias view diesel fuel from an environmental perspective. A discourse analysis is made to effectively study these actors view on diesel and carbon emission in cars both before and after the scandal. Than compare the empirical findings to get a more general consensus about fuel in cars and a connection to the wider view on decarbonisation.

The study shows that Volvo discourse hasn’t changed but the attitude towards diesel fuel as a suitable transition towards electric cars has changed. The state has changed discourse from an economic sustainable focus to a focus in technical innovation and sustainable development. The local emission emitted by diesel fuel is more vocalized than before. Diesel has gone from a short-term solution with the help of different biofuels to a reprioritization from diesel fuel to more emission neutral solutions. (Less)
