Abstract
This thesis aims to answer if Dieselgate had effects on how three actors, the Swedish government, Volvo cars and medias view diesel fuel from an environmental perspective. A discourse analysis is made to effectively study these actors view on diesel and carbon emission in cars both before and after the scandal. Than compare the empirical findings to get a more general consensus about fuel in cars and a connection to the wider view on decarbonisation.

The study shows that Volvo discourse hasn’t changed but the attitude towards diesel fuel as a suitable transition towards electric cars has changed. The state has changed discourse from an economic sustainable focus to a focus in technical innovation and sustainable development. The local... (More)

A discourse analysis is made to effectively study these actors view on diesel and carbon emission in cars both before and after the scandal. The study shows that Volvo discourse hasn’t changed but the attitude towards diesel fuel as a suitable transition towards electric cars has changed. The state has changed discourse from an economic sustainable focus to a focus in technical innovation and sustainable development. The local emission emitted by diesel fuel is more vocalized than before. Diesel has gone from a short-term solution with the help of different biofuels to a reprioritization from diesel fuel to more emission neutral solutions. (Less)
