- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
- Abstract
- Background: Research shows that pets contribute to perceived meaning, health and well- being of the elderly, however, studies are needed on younger people’s experienced values in occupations with pets. Purpose: To investigate experienced values in occupations with own pets among women with mental ill health at age 18–29 and investigate possible correlation between health and the value dimensions, and within the value dimensions. Method: A web- based survey was shared on a Facebook group and participants estimated the value experiences with the OVal-9 instrument and their health with selected questions from the SF- 36 questionnaire. Results: The study consisted of 69 participants, in which the majority estimated their general and mental... (More)

Results: The study consisted of 69 participants, in which the majority estimated their general and mental health low, expressed in terms of energy shortage and emotional instability. In OVal-9, activities with pets were assessed as necessary, they gave appreciation, contributed to joy and relaxation, and constituted an important part of the participants. However, there was no correlation found between health and value dimensions. Conclusion: The highly estimated value dimensions confirmed other studies. Health was estimated low but the non-significant correlation between the value dimensions and health, was not in line with former studies, which proves the need for further studies. (Less)
