- Bakgrund: För arbetsterapeuter är det möjligt att arbeta inom en rad olika verksamheter och i olika roller. Vissa arbetsterapeuter väljer att ta sig an ett ledarskap i en chefsbefattning. Trots det är arbetsterapi och ledarskap ett förhållandevis outforskat fält.
Syfte: Syftet var att undersöka hur chefer beskriver att de använder sin arbetsterapeutiska professionella kompetens i ledarskapet.
Metod: Studien var kvalitativ. Åtta semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med chefer som hade bakgrund inom arbetsterapi. Urvalet skedde genom bekvämlighets- och snöbollsurval. Studiens data analyserades genom kvalitativ innehållsanalys.

Huvudkategorierna och sub-kategorierna visade bland annat att deltagarna hade med sig en helhetssyn, ett fokus på möjligheter och ett intresse för aktivitetsbalans. Deltagarna beskrev också att samarbete och att kunna relatera till andra var viktiga delar både som chef och som arbetsterapeut. Deltagarna såg även likheter i arbetsprocesserna de använde som arbetsterapeut och chef. Identiteten som arbetsterapeut var fortfarande stark hos deltagarna.
Slutsats: Arbetsterapeutisk professionell kompetens kan användas av chefer i ledarskapet, till exempel vad det gäller kunskap om aktivitetsbalans, helhetssyn och relationsskapande. (Less) - Abstract

Method: A qualitative method including eight semi structured interviews was utilised for the study. Participants for the study were chosen through convenience sampling in combination with snowball sampling. Data was analysed using qualitative content analysis.
Results: Qualitative content analysis resulted in four main categories with related sub-categories. The main... The participants also described collaboration and relating to others as important both for occupational therapists and for managers. The participants still had a strong identity as occupational therapists.
Conclusion: Professional occupational therapy competence can be utilised by managers in their leadership, for example regarding the knowledge of occupational balance, having a holistic view and in relating to others. (Less)
