Abstract
In this thesis I will interpret the ​Ars amatoria ​ and ​Tristia ​ written by the Roman poet Ovid. He is mostly known for his poems about love and metamorphoses, and his life is closely linked with that of the emperor Augustus. That is why I have chosen to focus on how Ovid expressed himself on subjects such as love, marriage and the imperial power. The aim of this thesis is therefore to investigate how these topics is portrayed in the works of Ovid, and how his thoughts about them changed over time? I conclude by discussing how Ovid may have been more naive in both his feelings regarding love and the emperor when he wrote the ​Ars amatoria ​ .
