Abstract
This study is about how preschool teachers interpret the Swedish legislative rule concerning mandatory reporting and how organizational culture affects the teacher to make a report. Our main questions are: How is the obligation to report in SoL 14:1 interpreted by preschool teachers and how is the obligation to notify practiced based on their interpretation? Are there and how do preschool teachers perceive the support from their organization and how does it in turn affect the pre-school teacher's actions? We answer the questions through a qualitative interview study and previous research. This study is about how preschool teachers interpret the Swedish legislative rule concerning mandatory reporting and how organizational culture affects the teacher to make a report. Our main questions are: How is the obligation to report in SoL 14:1 interpreted by preschool teachers and how is the obligation to notify practiced based on their interpretation? Are there and how do preschool teachers perceive the support from their organization and how does it in turn affect the pre-school teacher's actions? We answer the questions through a qualitative interview study and previous research. The result show that there is a lack of information about the obligation to report in preschools and that there are no clear procedures for how preschool teachers should act if they suspect a child at risk. The result also show that the support of managers and colleagues is important in a notification. The law proved to be a safety for preschool teachers but also problematic since there is extensive scope for interpretation. any routines about how and when a report should be carried out in suspicion of maltreatment?
