Varför inför länder protektionistisk politik?
(2019) NEKH03 20182Department of Economics
- Abstract
- For decades, globalization and increased trade have contributed to increased welfare and better living standards worldwide. The fact that protectionism is on the rise although most trade theories and economists praise free trade forms one of the motivations for this study. This paper aims to find out what incites countries to increased protectionism. The study is based on panel data and examines 63 countries between 2009 and 2017, to test whether the variables are significant in measuring their impact on protectionism. With a negative binomial regression model, the result indicates that countries that are affected by other countries implementing protectionist measures, are more likely to implement protectionist measures themselves.
