Over the recent years, the Swedish government have actively developed strategies and policies on how to counter violent extremism. The aim of this study is to understand how the issue regarding violent extremism is treated and how the term is used by the government. Carol Bacchi’s What’s the problem represented to be?-approach is used to answer the essay’s research questions that seeks to understand the government’s problem representation of the phenomenon, and the problem representation’s possible effects. The findings present that violent extremism primarily is understood as a threat to the form of government. The problem representation’s possible effects are, however, difficult to identify in the material used in this essay. (Less)
