This study analyzes the relationship between the unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and the staff by using theoretical concepts such as attachment theory, self-determination theory and “another profession”.
The results show that the staff thinks that what these children mainly need is to feel safe and to have someone to talk to. The staff also expressed that children need to be motivated. One way the staff tries to meet this need is by giving them hope. A crucial part of the work is according to the staff to have a close relationship with the asylum-seeking children. At the same time, they mentioned that it is important that they don´t get to close since they are staff and not their family. (Less)
