Abstract
The unfavourable social and economic situation of Roma in the EU has been on debate for decades. The unfavourable social and economic situation of Roma in the EU has been on debate for decades. There are several efforts at the national and international level to improve the social and economic situation of Roma as many of them still face deep poverty and discrimination. The aim of my research is to study and present the Roma’s situation in Hungary and discuss their labour market opportunities on the Hungarian labour market. It aims to answer to the question: How are Roma’s situations and chances on the Hungarian labour market? with sub questions: a) How is the Roma participation on the labour market compare to the rest of the society in Hungary? and b) How and what social and economic factors are influencing the labour market opportunities for Roma in Hungary?
In order to answer for the research questions, the thesis uses the analyses of Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies up to 2020. The framework focuses on four main areas, employment, education, health and living conditions to describe Roma’s social and economic positions in the EU. (Less)
