Abstract
The digitalization of the social service in Sweden has begun extensively during the last couple of years. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine social worker’s expediencies of the digitalization of the social service and how it affected their latitude, work and workload. The chosen method of this study was qualitative interviews, which were held with nine social workers from four different municipalities. The digitalization of the social service in Sweden has begun extensively during the last couple of years. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine social worker’s expediencies of the digitalization of the social service and how it affected their latitude, work and workload. The chosen method of this study was qualitative interviews, which were held with nine social workers from four different municipalities. To interpret the interviewees, we used three different theories regarding the subjects of latitude, organizational alteration and salutogenesis. The results from the study showed that the implementation of digital appliances in the social service has its benefits, for instance when it comes to time saving and the experienced work load. Simultaneously a few of the interviewed social workers did see problems or obstacles with the digitalization of the social service. The mentioned problems did often concern uncertainty with the usage of the digital devices related to the legal aspects which is a central part in working in social service. The digitalization of the social service was appreciated by most of the social workers in terms of the time saving and workload aspect. However, client meetings and the human aspect were also considered to be of great value. and importance in social work according to the interviewees. This aspect was strongly stressed by several of the interviewees to be of importance not to be lost in the digitalization. The digitalization of the social service appeared to be positive for the social workers, but a good implementation seemed to be the key to successfulness. (Less)
