Framing climate change risks: An instrumental case-study of transnational risks in the response to climate change

- Abstract
- The current climate crisis experienced in the 21st century is a never seen before challenge that needs a collective response to address this global problem. Current processes of adaptation concern themselves mostly on local, regional or national level. As of now, the response to climate risks has not led to a cooperative approach to the issue, which has led to detrimental effects for those countries, who are the least responsible for the current situation. Transnational risks, which are currently not employed in the formal response to climate change constitute new opportunities for a more cooperative, coordinated response.

With the help of two Case-Studies, this thesis examines the questions on how transnational risks could change current processes of cooperation in climate change adaptation. With the help of the proposed TCI transnational risks are outlined in trade.
The need for a different approach is urgent, thus the framing of climate change risks is of utmost importance as it translates to specific actions. The thesis aims to further generalizations on this topic and opens up new possibilities for transnational risks in the response to climate change. (Less)
