- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to investigate to what extent it was possible to predict social loafing amongst football players through conscientiousness, motivation, time in team and sports-related status. An extensive amount of previous research has been conducted to investigate social loafing, but research regarding social loafing in the context of football is limited. The limitation is particularly noticeable on the level studied in this study, which is semi-professional football players. An internet survey was answered by 91 football players. The survey was a combination of three existing questionnaires; a Five Factor Model-questionnaire, Motives for Physical Activity Measure-Revised and Self-reported Social Loafing Questionnaires. The... The survey ended with demographic questions regarding years spent in team, number of started matches, level of the league they played in, age and gender. The effect on criterion variable was measured using four predictor variables with a standard multiple regression analysis in order to test the study’s hypothesis. The results showed that intrinsic motivation correlated negatively with social loafing and was the individually strongest contribution to the prediction of social loafing and that conscientiousness correlated negatively with social loafing. Sports-related status showed no correlation. The results lead to the practical recommendation for trainers to take the individuals intrinsic motivation into consideration and to form the training sessions using this insight. (Less)
