Abstract (Swedish)
Handboken “Stopp! Min kropp!” Min kropp!”. Samtliga föräldrar upplevde... (More)

Abstract
Bodily integrity is becoming a part of the preschool and school's curriculum on June 1, 2019. Children receiving support in developing bodily integrity is one step towards a more equal society and an important preventive effort against sexual abuse. The manual “Respect! My body!” intends to support adults in helping children develop bodily integrity. Knowledge of parents' thoughts and actions regarding the promotion of bodily integrity and experiences of the material “Respect! My body!” is missing, exploring this was the purpose of this paper. Six qualitative interviews have been conducted with parents of daughters aged five to six. The majority of parents had previously not encountered the concept of bodily integrity or heard of "Respect!... (More)

Six qualitative interviews have been conducted with parents of daughters aged five to six. The majority of parents had previously not encountered the concept of bodily integrity or heard of "Respect! My body!". All parents believed that the promotion of bodily integrity is important but challenging. The parents were positive about the material “Respect! My body!” but wished they had been given the material earlier, they argue that they might have acted differently in some situations. The reached conclusion was that parents need more knowledge, resources and support at an earlier stage in order to be able to do the required work at home for bodily integrity to become a part of the social norm as desired.
