Abstract
An overriding aim of this study is to examine adolescents experiences of drug use, with a focus on high school students at Akademi Båstad Gymnasium in Båstad municipality. More precisely the purpose is to examine the students drug use, and the underlying causes for this, and to examine their norms and attitudes regarding drug use. A web-based survey was sent out to the seniors of the particular high school measuring the extent and content of both legal and social norms and how they influence the use of narcotics. This study is thus a case study based on a survey study where the highest analysis unit is Båstad municipality and where Akademi Båstad Gymnasium and its senior students are analysis units that are studied at a lower level. The result suggests that drug use among the senior students remains high and that society's standards of drug-free society do not permeate young people's perception of drugs. One result that stands out in this study is the use of heavier drugs among the students. A larger proportion than the national average has tried drugs such as cocaine, amphetamine etc. The students norms and attitudes regarding drug use differ markedly. About half have a healthy approach to drugs and have the consistent view that drugs are poor from many aspects. The other half has the reverse opinion and believes that drugs are okay. The conclusion clearly indicates that society has a great challenge in transferring the social and legal norms to our adolescents. Creating an attitude change can, in a longer perspective, reduce the proportion of young people who have a positive approach to drugs. (Less)
