- Abstract
- The aim of this qualitative essay is to examine how diversity is interpreted by a company and study how this interpretation is translated into real-life practice, additionally, it aims to identify possible gaps in the implementation process. A bank is chosen as the object of study and the material is gathered through semi-structured interviews conducted with six managers. Furthermore, an analysis of the company’s equality- and diversity policy is included. Furthermore, an analysis of the company’s equality- and diversity policy is included. The study showed that intersectional categories such as disability and sexuality were lost in translation and were never verbally mentioned. Furthermore, categories such as ethnicity and age could mainly be seen in the external work and categories gender, ethnicity and age in the internal work. The study indicates that disability is not talked about in the internal or external work in the form of designated activities or initiatives. A small gap was identified due to a gender pay gap and another one due to that no disabled people were hired at the time of the study, which could mean that they have worse work opportunities than able-bodied individuals. The study also showed more areas of improvement than gaps, which was due to the unspecified and general wording of the policy. (Less)
