Klimatförändring enligt Bush, Obama, och Trump - Ett säkerhetiseringsperspektiv

- Abstract
- The first three US Presidents of the century have, to say the least, had differing views concerning the nature of climate change and how this issue is addressed most appropriately – as noted by the fact that the issue has gone back and forth between being a security issue and basically disappearing from the security agenda altogether. Securitization is the process by which actors, through discourse, transform issues into security issues. Desecuritization refers to the reverse process, by which an issue is removed from the security agenda. The study intends to investigate how securitization and desecuritization processes have been reflected in the rhetoric of the presidents. The analysis has shown that President Bush initiated a climate change desecuritization process by carrying out desecuritization acts of the rearticulating kind. Furthermore, it showed that President Obama began a clear process of securitization of the climate change issue. Lastly, the analysis showed that President Trump initiated his own desecuritization process of the issue, mainly through silencing. (Less)
