Abstract

their rural peripheries form their political strategies. The essay finds that a
difference in attitude exists between the countries. Sweden displays a much more
colonial and materialistic view of its peripheral rural areas as mainly a source of
economic activity to carry its own welfare costs while also contributing to the
national economy. Norway sees the rural periphery as not only a means to
generate economic activity and contribute to the national economy but also as a
historic and cultural legacy with its own intrinsic value with a much more
decentralized approach. (Less)
