To analyze our empirical data we used Hochschild’s theory on emotional labor. The conclusion of the study was that the social workers expressed a need to handle their emotions in order to maintain a professional approach towards clients and to feel comfortable themselves. An often-used strategy was to push away disturbing feelings as fear or frustration during the encounters and handle the feelings later with colleagues. (Less)
