Utvärdering av PIR-isolering med Konkalorimeter
(2019) In LUTVDG/TVBB VBRM01 20182Division of Fire Safety Engineering
- Abstract
- In this study four different types of PIR materials have been tested to examine the possibility to use the cone calorimeter (ISO 5660) as a screening tool to evaluate the fire properties of the insulation. As such, manufacturers can be able to make a quick control of the insulation without having to spend resources on full scale testing. One of the materials was from an FM-approved (standard 4880) sandwich panel.
The main conclusion from this report is that the output data in which gave the most differences between the materials was the heat release rate at the early stage and the time to ignition at 35 kW/m2. In the performed tests the repeatability was rather low and which therefore leads to uncertainties with the results. However,... The main conclusion from this report is that the output data in which gave the most differences between the materials was the heat release rate at the early stage and the time to ignition at 35 kW/m2. In the performed tests the repeatability was rather low and which therefore leads to uncertainties with the results. However, more testing needs to be done, with more materials involved, if to be sure of the best way to evaluate the material in hand. With the basis in this report a link between full scale and small scale testing was hard to find and more testing with more full scale tested materials is recommended as a next step. (Less)
