- This essay is about universalism in the welfare state of Sweden. The essay contains an evaluation regarding one of the social insurances which is the pension system. This paper analyzes how universalism has changed in the transition from old to the new Swedish elderly pension system. During the 1990s a new pension system was introduced which is why an evaluation is of interest. Through theories about the ideal universalistic social insurance and feministic theory the essay is trying to evaluate whether the structure of the pension system has affected the degree of universalism.
