Abstract (Swedish)
Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka fångarna upplevelse av vardagslivet på Malmö Centralfängelse mellan åren 1915-1924. Detta har gjorts genom att titta på olika typer av arkivmaterial från fängelset, i synnerhet förhörsprotokoll. Vidare kopplas fängelselivet till den större kontexten av samhällets idéer och lagar om straffverkställighet. Metoden är hermeneutisk och jag applicerar Michel Foucaults och Gresham M. Sykes teorier på mina empiriska resultat. Studien visar hur varje individuell fånges upplevelse skiljer sig åt, vilket understryker betydelsen av att se fångarna som aktörer och på så sätt frångå det strukturella perspektivet som ofta präglar studier av fängelser.
Abstract
The purpose of this essay is to study the everyday life and experience of prisoners at Malmö Centralfängelse between the years 1915-1924. This has been achieved through studying several different types of archived material from the prison, especially interrogation protocols. Prison life is then put in relation to a wider context of society’s ideas and laws about imprisonment. The method of the study is hermeneutic and I apply theories from Michel Foucault and Gresham M. Sykes to analyze empirical results.
