- Abstract
- This master thesis explores how implementing UX design on a product with predetermined technology affects the design process and the methods applied. A UI for the display version of an Axis Door Station is designed from a human-centered design perspective. The development process is based on prototyping and usability studies focusing on the user experience.
The thesis discusses if it is possible to design a better UI for an Axis Door Station through a human-centered design process than a technology driven one, and how the outcome differs if the process emanates from the human behavior instead of technology. It also discusses how the amount of user involvement affects the result and why UX design should be higher prioritised in... The thesis discusses if it is possible to design a better UI for an Axis Door Station through a human-centered design process than a technology driven one, and how the outcome differs if the process emanates from the human behavior instead of technology. It also discusses how the amount of user involvement affects the result and why UX design should be higher prioritised in technology contexts.
The result of the thesis is two UIs developed based on human-centered design. The final usability study show that they are more intuitive than the initially developed UI by Axis Communications AB. - Utvecklingen av teknik fortskrider snabbare och i större utsträckning än någonsin tidigare. Våra vardagliga liv blir allt mer beroende av interaktion med tekniska produkter. Ju mer människans och teknikens existens sammanflätas desto viktigare blir det för teknik-producerande företag att utveckla sina produkter med det mänskliga beteendet och användarupplevelsen i åtanke.
Vi utforskar i samarbete med Axis Communications hur implementeringen av användarcentrerad design på en produkt med förbestämd teknologi påverkar designprocessen och dess metoder. Vi designar ett användargränssnitt för display-versionen av en Axis Door Station utifrån ett användarcentrerat designperspektiv. Vi utformar gränssnittet genom att skapa prototyper och genomföra användartester med fokus på användarupplevelsen. För att ha en referenspunkt att jämföra vår slutgiltiga design med genomför vi även ett användartest på ett gränssnitt som Axis tidigare utvecklat.
Vi diskuterar om det är möjligt att designa ett bättre användargränssnitt för en Axis Door Station genom att utgår från det mänskliga beteendet istället för teknologin. Vi diskuterar även hur mängden användarmedverkan påverkar resultatet och varför användarcentrerad design borde ha högre prioritet i teknologiska kontexter.
Vårt arbete resulterar i två användargränssnitt baserade på användarcentrerad design. Det sista genomförda användartestet med samma testgrupp som tidigare visar att våra nya gränssnitt är mer intuitiva än det ursprungliga som utformats av Axis. Deltagarna i användartestet uttrycker att de föredrar de nya användargränssnitten då de uppfattas som enklare och mer angenäma. Vårt arbete visar att användarcentrerad design genererar interaktiva produkter som ger en bättre användarupplevelse än produkter framtagna i en teknikdriven utvecklingsprocess. (Less)
