This was a qualitative study about former criminals’ path to criminality and the study consisted of semi structured interviews with six former criminals. The aim of the study was to gain knowledge on why people turn to criminality. We asked our interviewees about what they thought were important factors in their path to criminality, as well as which factors they thought lacked during their childhood which led to criminality. Using Lilly, Cullen and Ball’s (2014) description of Travis Hirschi’s theory about social bonds and Edwin Sutherland’s theory about differential associations we analysed our empirical material and found that problematic family situation, absent fathers, time spent with peers, the neighbourhood they grew up...
