Abstract
In a changing labor market, the employment relationship between employer and employee is ever-changing. In previous studies, unlicensed assistive personnel have been ascribed poor working conditions, high job insecurity and low volition in their employment contracts. This study aimed to investigate unlicensed assistive workers employment situation with regard to perceived job insecurity, contract volition and the psychological contract. Furthermore, comparisons between permanent and temporary employees were made. The study adapted a quantitative cross-sectional study in the form of an online survey. 73 unlicensed assistive workers, hired by three different companies in the private sector, completed the survey. The study adapted a quantitative cross-sectional study in the form of an online survey. 73 unlicensed assistive workers, hired by three different companies in the private sector, completed the survey. The survey was based on instruments developed by the research project Psycones. The results showed that the unlicensed assistive personnel have relatively low job insecurity and an average contract volition. The temporary employees reported significantly higher contract volition than the permanent employees, but there were no differences in perceived job insecurity between the two groups. The unlicensed assistive personnel indicated that the state of the psychological contract is relatively decent, but there were no significant differences in the psychological contract between the permanent and temporary employees. The results also show that the employees indicated that they make more promises and obligations, and are better at fulfilling these promises, than the employer. A limitation in the study was the low response rate, therefore the results should be interpreted with caution. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
