- Abstract
- Purpose: This thesis purpose is to see how pharmaceutical companies can use the Transaction Cost Economics theory in their decision making in regards to the make, buy or ally decision when a new market emerges.
Method: This is a basic case study that focuses on the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. It has an idiographic approach, and several semi-structured interviews have taken place. Pattern-matching has been used in order to analyse the qualitative research data, with an abductive approach.
Theoretical perspective: The Transaction Cost Economics theory’s real world implications. Vertical integration versus strategic alliance.
