Results: Our results have shown that many parents have experienced and described that they have developed a co-dependency in relation to the child who abuses. The parents have also described that they often feel mentally ill because of the child's substance abuse problems. Another result of the study showed is that the problem of abuse together with the co-dependency problem led to conflicts between the family members, which often resulted in a difficult life situation for the whole family. The result also shows that the parents experienced and described that there are deficiencies in the social services when it came to getting help for their own co-dependents. (Less)
