- Abstract
- This paper aims to examine how nine adopted women, through an article series published in a feminist journal in South Korea, articulate alternative narratives to and thereby resistance towards the normative structures and narratives that exist surrounding adoption, by presenting stories and analyses from lived experience. These alternative stories are analysed through the term reculturation. Four major types of ‘doing’ are described by the authors: telling - the collective testimony; returning and the will to stay - a discursive impossibility; retaking - de-assimilation and taking back something lost; and the writing of one’s own history - the importance of being seen and validated.
