The work of teachers that meet the young population in their everyday life is important when it comes to preventing violent extremism among youths. In this thesis I examine what role teachers are given in preventing extremism in Sweden. Through text analysis methods of municipal action plans, I also examine how schools in Scania support teachers in anti-extremism work
The study draws from literature studies of previous research on the subject as well as content analysis of the existing municipal action plans. I conclude that preventative measures carried out by schools are shaped by policing methods rather than teaching methods, when the latter could be more efficient to prevent extremist conversion. I also find that support for teachers is lacking in municipal action plans - although these flawed action plans are better than none. (Less)
