Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)

The study also investigates if choir teachers can see benefits of teaching choir with choir singings health effects in mind, and what the possibility is to use choir singing as a tool in today’s high schools (Swedish gymnasium). In order to complete the study, there was three interviews made according to qualitative method. The informants were two choir teachers and a school counselor. Two of the informants works at a Swedish gymnasium and the third informant works with music and health.
The result of the study is that all three informants discuss how student health services would be able to use choir singing as a tool. The informants talk about different factors that can increase bad mental health amongst students such as grades and assessments, performance anxiety and student’s comparing themselves with each other. Furthermore the informants discuss how choir singings health benefits can support students and choir teachers. Finally, they discuss what the possibility is to work with choir singing through the student health services.
The study’s conclusion from the results is that choir singing can be used as a tool through the student health service, but there are issues with how it would apply with the school’s organization. Choir teachers can be benefited by thinking about choir singings health effects, but they can also receive and give the health effects simply by teaching. The informants see positive effects in using choir singing as a after school activity or that the student health service can recommend people with bad mental health to sing in choir. (Less)
