Can the functional income distribution explain income inequality?
(2020) NEKH03 20201Department of Economics
- Abstract
- This thesis studies the correlation between capital share and income inequality using three different income inequality measures.
By performing a panel data regression and estimating Pearson’s r I
find that there exists a large and positive correlation between capital
share and top income shares. This correlation varies across countries
and regions. The correlation was largely positive for Anglo-Saxon
and Nordic countries whereas for Continental Europe and Africa, it
was negative.
