- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to, according to eight managers stories in a service-orientated professions, narrative theory and method, see what factors have made it possible or acted as obstacles to reach a management position and pursue leadership in that position. The used method has been a qualitative analysis with a narrative standpoint and semi-structured interviews. The main results showed that the interviewees experienced different ways of reaching a formal leadership position as well as viewing themselves as leaders depending on what gender they defined themselves as. The result also emerged that it was common for the interviewees to have a good relationship with their former manager. The study's conclusion, based on the interviewees narratives, is that different people have different ways of reaching a formal leadership position and pursue leadership in these positions. This corporate with structural inequality that some people get advantages from, while others experience resistance. However further research on the topic must be done to get a broader perspective from a more varied group of people. (Less)
