Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Background: Stress-related illness is increasing among young adults, who find it difficult to achieve a balance between everyday activities. Workplace environments in health and social care are often stressful, and sick leave is common. This poses a risk to young adults attending an upper secondary healthcare educational programme.
Purpose: To identify the degree of occupational balance and stress among young adults attending an upper secondary healthcare educational programme and examine whether any relationship exists between occupational balance and stress.
Methodology: A questionnaire survey was conducted with 39 participants using the Occupational Balance Questionnaire 11, Perceived Stress Scale 14 and background questions.... (More)

Purpose: To identify the degree of occupational balance and stress among young adults attending an upper secondary healthcare educational programme and examine whether any relationship exists between occupational balance and stress.
Methodology: A questionnaire survey was conducted with 39 participants using the Occupational Balance Questionnaire 11, Perceived Stress Scale 14 and background questions. Descriptive statistics were used and a correlation analysis was conducted.
Results: Almost half of the participants which answered the background questions had a part-time job and the majority engaged in fun and relaxing activities. The median occupational balance score was 14 and the median stress score was 30. No significant correlation between occupational balance and stress was found‬‬.
Conclusion: The working environment that young adults attending a healthcare educational programme are preparing to work within has the potential to negatively affect their stress and occupational balance. Preventive occupational therapy interventions focused on lifestyle changes would prove useful for this group. (Less)
