Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
Abstract
The majority of the dwellings in the rural areas of Ukraine are inefficient from an energy perspective, as well as having an inadequate indoor climate. A large part of the housing stock in Ukraine is in great need of renovation as it is outdated, and the energy use is high. More than 70% of the housing stock is estimated to be in need of additional insulation, and energy use is on average at 210–240 kWh/(m²·year), which is almost twice as high as the European average at 125 kWh/(m²·year). This study aims to investigate the possibility of reducing the energy use in the houses in Gammalsvenskby, as well as the possibility of improving the indoor environment. Structured interviews were conducted with the residents, along with thorough... (More)

This study aims to investigate the possibility of reducing the energy use in the houses in Gammalsvenskby, as well as the possibility of improving the indoor environment. Structured interviews were conducted with the residents, along with thorough investigation of the different houses’ construction and systems. Measurements regarding air circulation, moisture content, and temperature were performed, to collect data for the various simulations of renovation alternatives. The results of the energy simulations were then used for energy, life cycle cost and payback time calculations. Our analysis showed that the renovation alternatives containing heating pump or external insulation of the exterior wall had a big impact on energy saving. The conclusion of this study is that installing a heating pump, along with adding external insulation to the exterior walls, will greatly decrease the energy use, along with improving the indoor environment.
