Abstract (Swedish)
Increasing CO2 emissions are impacting the environment negatively. There is a common under-standing that the overconsumption of natural resources is no longer acceptable. In Sweden, within the transport sector, heavy and light trucks make up for a large portion of the emis-sions. One way to tackle climate change and reach ecological sustainability, perhaps the most crucial one, is by implementing Information Systems (IS). The use of IS to create more sus-tainable practices is often referred to as Green Information Systems/Information Technology (Green IT/IS). The research field of Green IT/IS is not a well-researched field, especially when it comes to the transport sector and how Swedish transportation companies are approaching... (More)

The research field of Green IT/IS is not a well-researched field, especially when it comes to the transport sector and how Swedish transportation companies are approaching environmental challenges with the use of Green IT/IS. This thesis’ aim is to investigate, through qualitative research, what technologies some of the larger transport companies in Sweden are utilizing to become sustainable. The findings indicate that only a few technologies and practices, such as route optimizations and ISO standards are being used by all companies, which suggest that there is room for improvement within the field.
