- Abstract
- This study has examined how six different people who are new in Sweden perceive Swedish culture and values and how these values contrast with what they bring from their home countries. The informants are from Eritrea, Sudan, Syria, Iran and Afghanistan and were interviewed to share their thoughts and experiences on this. The answers were analyzed using theories of ethnicity, identity and integration policy. What became clear is that there is much to be appreciated in their new country, including political freedom and a generous welfare system, but regarding the social climate, there is much that is difficult to adapt to. Adapting to Swedish society is thus a balancing act between subcommunicating parts of one's culture when staying in... (More)

- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)
