Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine if there is a covariance between job insecurity and the experienced mental well-being with the factor social interaction between co-workers as a mediating effect. This was studied through a web survey where experienced mental well-being, social interaction and job insecurity was measured with construct validated surveys. The participants (N=87) were employees at supermarkets, all over the age of eighteen. They were collected by requests via email to supermarkets and by convenience sampling through the authors’ social media that developed into a snowball selection. The results showed non-significant Spearman’s rho correlations between job insecurity and experienced well-being (r= -.20, p = .22).... (More)

The results showed non-significant Spearman’s rho correlations between job insecurity and experienced well-being (r= -.20, p = .22). However, it did show significant differences between experienced mental well-being and the groups of high and low job insecurity (U=624, p= .30), where the group with high job insecurity experienced lesser mental well-being. The results also showed significant correlations between experienced mental well-being and the two variables ‘social support from colleagues’ (r= -.29, p < .01) and ‘social community at work’ (r = -.44, p= <.001). The result meant that a mediating analysis was not possible to make since the requirements for that was not made. The conclusions that were made is that the results support previous research but that the prevailing pandemic might have affected the factors studied and that the results might have been different in another situation.

Keywords: job insecurity, experienced mental well-being, social support between colleagues, employment situation (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
Dock visade Mann Whitney... (More)
